16-19 Study Programme
How do we meet the requirements of the 16 – 19 study programme?
All ESFA funded education for 16 to 19 year olds should be delivered as a study programme which combines qualifications and other activities, and which is tailored to each student’s prior attainment and career goals. Every study programme must have a core aim. For the majority of students, this will be either the study of substantial technical, applied or academic qualification(s) or preparation for employment.
Denefield students study A Level and/or BTEC qualifications at Level 3. Students who do not hold a GCSE grade 4 in Maths and/or English are required to continue these subjects as part of their study programme. Students are also entitled to a study programme that supports their progression to higher education, apprenticeships or employment. Students at Denefield explore a variety of opportunities in tutor time and through our assembly programme. Often this is delivered by their tutor or the Sixth Form leadership team, though they also have opportunities for meaningful engagements with higher education institutions, apprenticeship providers and employers.
Some students in Year 12 actively seek work experience placements with the support of the Sixth Form team and all students are entitled to up to 3 days off timetable to visit higher education institutions.
Students at Denefield give back to the school community through our personal development programme. This programme gives students the soft skills that enable their success when applying for future roles, and when embarking upon their next steps. There are a huge variety of opportunities for students and these include, but are not limited to, supporting lower school lessons as a TA, supporting (or running) extra-curricular clubs and mentoring students in the lower years of the school.
